Choosing a Synergy Alternative for Mac and Windows

Any Display product team

Start with the job you need done: share input between computers that already have screens, or send a display to another computer or tablet as well. Any Display is worth considering when you need computer keyboard and mouse sharing alongside separate display features. Match the operating systems and workflow before comparing feature counts.

Choose around your actual setup

Mac and Windows input plus a tablet display

Any Display offers computer input sharing, tablet second displays and computer display connections as separate modes. Choose the KVM menu when you only want input sharing. Test other features you need, such as a mobile webcam or pen input, during the trial.

A setup that includes Linux

Synergy includes Linux in its supported input-sharing platforms. Any Display’s computer input-sharing scope is Mac and Windows, so it is not an equivalent replacement when Linux is essential.

Only Windows computers

Consider Microsoft PowerToys Mouse Without Borders as well: it supports up to four computers with shared input, clipboard and file transfer. Establish whether you need Mac compatibility before narrowing your choices.

Native apps on Mac and iPad

Apple Universal Control is another option for supported Macs and iPads that meet its requirements, including the same Apple Account. Controlling native iPad apps is different from displaying a computer workspace on an iPad.

What should I test before switching?
Check your actual screen layout, input-language switching, frequent shortcuts, text copy and paste, and emergency return. Use the apps you work in every day to check that pointer movement and shortcuts behave as you expect.
Is it a hardware USB KVM replacement?
Any Display uses running apps and a network. A hardware KVM physically switches video and USB peripherals. This software workflow also does not connect two computers directly by a USB cable.
